One institute · three readers · three verdicts

Is IIPM Lucknow your answer?

Three kinds of people search for this institute: the rep who wants management skills, the professional staring at a degree-gated rule, and the one whose employer is paying. Each gets a verdict below — including the one we turn away.

First, what you are actually looking at

IIPM here means the Indian Institute of Pharmaceutical Marketing, and the expansion matters: this is a Lucknow institution teaching pharma-sector management, with no connection to the long-gone “Planning and Management” body that once made the same four letters notorious. It is organised as a non-profit society under the 1860 Societies Registration Act, has been at this work since 1998, and carries Indian Pharmaceutical Association membership.

One fact controls everything below. What IIPM confers under its own seal — the flagship it markets as an MBA included — is a diploma, pitched at masters level, issued on the institute’s own authority rather than a university’s. IIPM doesn’t hide this; its own programme page files the award as an autonomous masters diploma, and we will be exactly as plain. A separate route exists for people who need a degree: the institute signs students up for recognised universities' distance and online programmes, and on that route the parchment carries the university’s name, not IIPM’s. Two routes, two different pieces of paper. Work out which one your situation calls for before you compare anything else.

And said out loud, because this site is useless if it isn’t straight with you: the network behind OnlineMBA.me runs admission work of its own alongside IICT and IIPM; treat what follows as informed but interested, and confirm anything that matters with the institute directly.

Situation one · Worth it You carry the bag, and you want the desk.

You’re a medical representative, or newly first-line, and the ceiling above you is managerial vocabulary — P&L, launch planning, team economics — not effort. No interview panel in Indian pharma has ever failed a candidate for holding a diploma rather than a degree; they fail candidates who can’t talk credibly about building share in a crowded molecule market. For you, the pull of IIPM is that the material is sector-shaped: pharma business management, pharmaceutical marketing, hospital and healthcare management — subjects a general management syllabus gives half a chapter, if that.

The institute’s published fee table reads ₹25,000 for the two-year MBA, or ₹27,500 if you compress it into one; a one-year Executive MBA at ₹20,555 exists precisely for people with your years in the field. Delivery is at a distance, with a round-the-clock subject tutor — the institute calls it the AI Professor — inside the student portal, and apps on both Android and iOS. That combination is worth more than it sounds when your working day happens in doctors’ waiting rooms and car parks.

Situation two · Not this Somewhere, a rule says the word “degree”.

A recruitment notification. A promotion policy. A PhD admissions page. A credential evaluator abroad. If any of these stands between you and where you’re going, read its exact wording, because that wording — not this page, and not any brochure — decides the matter. Where the line demands a degree, a diploma cannot answer it, however strong the teaching behind it, and what IIPM awards in its own name is a diploma. We would rather lose you here than have you discover that after paying.

Your move is the degree route: a recognised university programme — including the ones IIPM itself places students into, where the university is the awarding body — or any other university that fits your plan. And if, on re-reading, your gate actually says “postgraduate qualification” rather than “degree”, don’t celebrate yet: get whoever controls the gate to confirm in writing that a diploma clears it. The seller’s assurance is not the gatekeeper’s.

Situation three · Yes, with one check The company pays, and you want pharma depth.

Your employer keeps a learning budget, and you’d rather it bought something shaped like your industry than another all-purpose leadership module. At IIPM’s price points the affordability question barely arises — the check that remains is bureaucratic, not financial. Open the reimbursement policy and look at the noun it uses: if it reimburses “degrees”, a diploma may sit outside the scheme, so get a written yes from HR before enrolment rather than an argument after it.

If the budget-holder wants range on paper, the dual-specialisation MBA (₹26,000, or ₹28,500 fast-tracked) pairs a pharma line with a functional one. And one honest caveat against our own interest: if your employer will fund a full university degree, take the degree — funded, the bigger qualification wins.

What the teaching leans toward

The specialisation catalogue is healthcare-heavy by design: pharmaceutical business management, pharma marketing, production and retail, hospital management and healthcare management sit at the centre, with functional lines — finance, HRD, CRM, services marketing, foreign trade, insurance — and an AI-for-Business option around them. If none of those words appears anywhere in your career plan, you may be reading about the wrong institute, and that’s fine: our main decision tool covers the general case, and the instead-of-an-MBA list covers the rest.

The claims we leave to them

IIPM’s own site speaks of more than twenty-seven years of teaching, an alumni body past ten thousand spread over twenty-plus countries, and thirty-odd specialisations. Those figures are the institute’s; we have not audited them, and we pass them on labelled as such. It also advertises salary and promotion outcomes. We reprint no marketing statistics as fact on any page of this site — if outcomes are what you’re buying, ask IIPM for the underlying data and weigh it the way you’d weigh a rival rep’s claims about a competitor molecule.

Three questions, answered the short way

Is the IIPM MBA a degree?
No — what arrives is a diploma at masters level, conferred on the institute’s own authority. In IIPM’s world a degree comes only through the recognised universities it places students with — the university signs that parchment, never the institute.
Is a diploma automatically the lesser paper?
Not automatically. The IIMs spent most of their history as registered societies whose flagship award, the PGDM, was itself a diploma; degree-granting power only arrived when Parliament changed their status, in force from 2018. The narrower question is whether your specific gate insists on a degree — if it does, no diploma clears it, and situation two above is yours.
What will IIPM cost?
By its published table: ₹25,000 over two years for the MBA, ₹27,500 compressed into one, ₹20,555 for the one-year Executive MBA, and shorter diplomas starting at ₹5,500. Verify before paying.
